
Fried Green Tomatoes
Ingredients
- 3-4 firm green tomatoes, sliced 1/2 inch thick
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 0.5 tsp paprika (optional)
- 2 eggs
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Steps
- Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- In a shallow bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- In a separate bowl, whisk eggs with milk.
- Dip each tomato slice first in the egg mixture, then dredge in the cornmeal mixture to coat.
- Carefully place coated tomato slices in the hot oil and fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm — alone or with a dipping sauce.
